Red carpet review: The barely dressed edition
During awards show season, or any season really, the pressure to stand out on the red carpet is intense.
To wit, there’s been quite a run of barely-there dresses lately, starting with the ridiculously revealing Azzaro creation Jaimie Alexander wore to the “Thor: The Dark World†premiere on Nov. 4 in Los Angeles, and finishing with looks at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after-party on Thursday night in New York.
At the Nov. 11 “Mandela†premiere in L.A., Naomie Harris, who is emerging as a breakout fashion star, wore a gorgeous pale blue, whisper-thin silk tulle plissé dress by Vionnet with a plunging neckline and bare hips that managed to look sweet and tasteful and command attention.
Cut to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after party. The occasion does call for a certain state of undress, I suppose, and the models didn’t disappoint.
Karlie Kloss chose a white Cushnie Et Ochs gown that barely covered her decolletage, and Candice Swanepoel wore a body-skimming Alexandre Vauthier dress with about 6 inches of fabric between plunging neck and thigh-high slit.
More power to them. It sure beat the silly, tricked-out lingerie they had to wear on the Victoria’s Secret runway.
