Paris Haute Couture: Lady Gaga at Atelier Versace
When Lady Gaga, the new face of Versace, entered the grand salons of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Sunday, the phalanx of photographers had just minutes to take photographs before being shooed away so that the spring/summer 2014 Atelier Versace show could begin.
Wearing a black-hooded gown, Lady Gaga swished her voluminous train aside and took her place beside photographer Mario Testino. Just a few places away sat Nolan Funk of “Glee,†“Awkward†and “Riddick.†Most recently, Funk has been starring in Versace’s new menswear campaign.
Just before Lady Gaga made her entrance, Funk said he was proud to represent the label. He said he was enjoying his first trip to Paris, where he spent much of his time meandering through the city and practicing his French, which we noticed he did several times that evening as local TV presenters continued to come by for interviews.
When the fashion parade began, models strode the catwalk to the driving beat of Lady Gaga’s “Applause,†“Born This Way†and most appropriately, “Donatella,†showing off cocktail dresses, pant-sets and gowns, most of them beaded, skin-baring and topped off in hoods.
According to the program, the new collection by Donatella Versace took inspiration from “the elegance and power of the contemporary goddess,†with a thought to “the fluidity and provocation†of another recording superstar, 1980s icon Grace Jones.
