New York Fashion Week: Phillip Lim gets quirky

NEW YORK -- Phillip Lim presented his fall 2014 runway show at the post office building in midtown on Monday afternoon, sending out lots of bold, powdery colors and prints.

The inspiration: “A fun and culturally curious woman,†which Lim went so far as to name “Soleil,†according to the show notes. “Her world is somewhere between instant pop and culture.†(Whatever that means.)

The look: Peacock-ish.

Key pieces: Color-block “Soleil†print mid-length dress. Cuffed, printed denim trouser jeans. Powdery lilac shearling denim-style jacket. Patchwork trench with pink shearling collar. Whimsical knits, including a black crochet turtleneck with a side ruffle. Draped ivory-and-black color-block satin dress. Block heel boots.

The verdict: Not the home run that last season was. This collection was quirky almost to a fault, which seems out of step with Lim’s brand DNA.
