BCBG celebrates 25 years in furry style

BCBG designers Max and Lubov Azria celebrated 25 years of their label on Thursday at New York Fashion Week by presenting a fall collection that got back to the brand’s DNA of affordable luxury and effortless elegance.

“How women are wearing clothes is shifting,†Lubov said backstage. “We’re no more walking in the tight dresses to the knee. We believe women dress based on their body shape, not trends. So we try to make sure there is something for everyone but also with a strong message.â€

In other words, BCBG is not just about super-tight party girl clothes. It’s about an everyday wardrobe for all ages. Which may also explain why the front-row celebrity quotient was ratcheted way down this season.

Instead of putting the spotlight on a row of perfectly made up, shrink-wrap-dressed actresses, the designers were putting it on the customer.

The inspiration: Landscapes and scenery of the Louisiana bayou. Water and sky blues, neutrals, grays and rich terra-cotta hues.

The look: Clean, color-blocked and furry.

Key pieces: Color-blocked crepe caftan shirt dress worn with high boots; rabbit fur cable sweatshirt over culottes; silvery jacquard sweatshirt over sweat pants; denim baseball jacket; landscape burnout print maxi dress; a clever fur muff/clutch handbag.

The verdict: A little overworked at times (mostly, the beaded tulle evening wear) but ultimately, lots of easy pieces to pick apart and wear.
