USA picks up ‘Queen of the South’ series
The international bestselling novel “La Reina del Sur†has inspired a hit telenovela on Telemundo and now it’s getting remade for North American audiences on USA.
The cable channel picked up the series “Queen of the South,†based on the original novel by Arturo Perez-Reverte. M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller wrote the pilot and will executive produce the series along with David Friendly and Pancho Mansfield. Fox 21 Television Studios is co-producing the series with Universal Cable Productions.
Alice Braga will star as a woman whose drug-dealing boyfriend is murdered in Mexico, forcing her to flee to America, where she plots her revenge against the head of the drug cartel who is now seeking her death as well.
Along the way, she comes to understand the drug trade and works to position herself as the new head of the cartel.
“Queen of the South†joins the previously announced series “Complications,†“Mr. Robot†and “Colony†as dramas coming to USA in the next year.
“Queen of the South†is expected to premiere sometime in 2016.
