‘The Simpsons’ pays tribute to ‘Breaking Bad’

“The Simpsons†will pay tribute to “Breaking Bad†in Sunday’s opening credits--and it seems the AMC drama’s New Mexico drug operation has got nothing on Springfield. [insert B-word-laced, Pinkman-esque statement of excitement since we can’t.]

After the 2011 viral mashup “Breaking Bart†mingled “The Simpsons†and “Breaking Bad,†fans of both shows can now enjoy an bona fide blending of the two. The tribute will give a nod to an assembly sequence from Season 5 of the drug drama, which featured the haunting soundtrack of 1969’s “Crystal Blue Persuasion.â€

When it goes through “The Simpsons†machine, Marge takes center stage, cooking up a batch of blue cupcakes (we can only imagine they are 99.1% pure). Through it all, Homer is donning his Heisenberg disguise.

The whole gag ends with “Breaking Bad†stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul watching “The Simpsons†from their couch.

It’s a marriage that keeps on giving. “Breaking Bad†leading man Cranston guest voiced on the show last year as a James Bond-type character. The AMC drama is set to conclude this year.
