Jimmy Fallon gets girly with blogger Tavi Gevinson
At just 16 years of age, Tavi Gevinson has already been profiled by the New Yorker and the New York Times, become the darling of the fashion world, delivered a TED talk, and even launched her own website last year.
Gevinson added to her list of accomplishments Tuesday night by visiting “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon†to promote “Rookie Yearbook One,†a book inspired by the online magazine.
It was Gevinson’s “Late Night†debut, but if she was nervous, she certainly didn’t seem like it. When Fallon asked the teen where she had grown up, the quick-witted teen answered, “I am still growing up outside Chicago.â€
Gevinson, who started blogging about fashion when she was barely a tween and was sitting in the front row at Fashion Week by 13, recalled the moment she realized her life as a style prodigy was “way different than middle schoolâ€: It’s when she met Bjork.
“There needs to be a different word for what she is because she’s not a human,†Gevinson said of the Icelandid pop star. “I met her and she didn’t say a word. She just took my hand and stroked it and grinned at me.â€
Gevinson also demonstrated several versions of the “bitch faceâ€(read: sullen teenage expressions) for Fallon, describing it as “a way to express your passive aggression†and claiming that she suffered from a chronic case of the affliction. There’s the fingers-on-the-temple face, the hands-over-nose face, then, as Fallon demonstrated quite effectively, the sideways-glance face.
Gevinson had found a kindred spirit in Fallon. “Whoa, you are a teenage girl,†she said.
