Is Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Dads’ worst-reviewed show of fall TV season?

Give Seth MacFarlane credit for uniting America’s cranky TV critics. They all seem to hate his new sitcom “Dads.â€

Premiering Tuesday night, the new Fox show stars Giovanni Ribisi and Seth Green as two video-game entrepreneurs whose AARP-aged fathers (Martin Mull and Peter Riegert) move in with them.

Writer-producer MacFarlane has never been a critical favorite, although he has been riding high with “Family Guy†and the feature hit “Ted.†But the reviews for “Dads†have been scathing, probably the worst of his career.

“If the two whiny sons and their equally unlikable fathers aren’t enough to push you away, the boorish childishness of the show’s obvious efforts to offend should do the trick,†Robert Bianco wrote in USA Today.

A number of reviewers have attacked the show for offensive racial stereotypes. “Material that is meant to be anarchic mostly comes across as obvious and boorish,†the New York Times said.

“A dog of a show,†summarized the A.V. Club, which gave “Dads†an F.

How about you? Are you going to take critics’ word for it, or will you give “Dads†a try?
