Jon Stewart plays ‘Racist or Not Racist’ with Key and Peele
Was that kid in a Ku Klux Klan outfit at Halloween racist or not racist? What about that Washington Post column by Richard Cohen talking about people with “conventional views†suppressing the urge to vomit when they see New York Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio with his African American wife? Or Sarah Palin’s comparison of the national debt to slavery?
Wednesday night on “The Daily Show,†Jon Stewart decided to answer the media’s favorite open-ended question — Is this racist or not racist? — with a panel discussion. “Daily Show†correspondents Jessica Williams, Jason Jones and Aasif Mandvi gave their views on several recent incidents in the news.
While Williams and Mandvi generally saw eye-to-eye in finding stuff quite racist, Jones called everything “adorable,†including the kid in the KKK outfit.
Visibly annoyed that Williams is African American and Mandvi is Indian, Jones demanded “impartial judges.â€
Enter Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, stars of the Comedy Central sketch show “Key and Peele†and both from mixed-race families.
“It literally doesn’t get any more impartial than that,†Peele said.
With the panel now at five people, they took on two more possible incidents, with Key and Peele actually weighing in with some surprising opinions.
