With Jimmy Fallon, ‘The Tonight Show’ gets back to ‘Starring’
When Jimmy Fallon takes over “The Tonight Show†from Jay Leno in February 2014, he’s not just getting an upgrade in his start time, he’s also getting a billing promotion.
As first pointed out by the Huffington Post, Fallon’s “Tonight Show†will be titled “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.†That’s a throwback to late-night king Johnny Carson’s reign, when the show was titled “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.â€
Both hosts to take over the show after Carson, Leno and Conan O’Brien, got a less prestigious “With†in the title. And Fallon currently hosts “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.â€

The upgrade in title could be a move, if somewhat minor, to set Fallon apart from his other late-night competition, Jimmy Kimmel, who hosts “Jimmy Kimmel Live†on ABC and “Late Show With David Letterman.â€
It was also announced Tuesday that Fallon’s longtime writer, Amy Ozols, would be taking over as producer of the new “Tonight Show,†with “Saturday Night Live†creator Lorne Michaels serving as executive producer.
Ozols has been with Fallon’s show since it launched in 2009 and is credited with coming up with several of his most popular parodies, including the “Real Housewives†spoofs and “Game of Desks.â€
She also wrote his opening number from the 2010 Emmy Awards.
