‘Glee’ will end in 2015
More bad news, “Glee†fans: The beloved Fox musical series will be ending after next season.
Series creator Ryan Murphy announced the news to reporters at a Paley Center event for the FX channel Wednesday night.
The announcement, which was first reported by TV Line, also reveals that Murphy has been forced to rethink the ending to his series since the shocking death of star Cory Monteith this summer. Monteith’s death from a combination of heroin and alcohol wracked the cast and crew of the series which was entering its fifth season.

A special tribute episode of “Glee†aired last week honoring Monteith’s character, Finn Hudson, who also died. While Murphy and his writers had to do some short-term changes to accomodate Monteith’s death for this season, he has had to also think more long term.
“The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn’s story,†Murphy told TV Line. “I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I knew what the last shot was, he was in it. I knew what the last line was, she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring that out now.â€
While “Glee’s†overall ratings are down from the show’s second season, it received a renewal for two more seasons in April. However, Season 6 will definitely be its last. The show’s fifth season premiere drew 30% fewer viewers than the fourth season premiere. The series did have a minor resurgence for the Monteith tribute episode, which had an audience of 7.39 million, making it the highest rated episode in more than a year.
