‘Boardwalk Empire’ renewed for fifth season
“Boardwalk Empire†is coming back for a fifth season.
HBO announced Thursday that the critically acclaimed series will be back for another year. Last weekend, the series picked up five Emmy Awards -- for art direction, hairstyling, sound mixing, sound editing and for supporting actor Bobby Cannavale.
Though “Boardwalk†hasn’t tapped into the pop-culture zeitgeist the way “Game of Thrones†has, the series, created by Terrence Winter and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, has received steady ratings and multiple Emmys for directing, casting and visual effects.

The series, which stars Steve Buscemi as Atlantic City crime boss Enoch “Nucky†Thompson, has been praised for its lavish re-creation of the Prohibition-era world of New Jersey and New York City.
The show’s fourth season debuted on Sept. 8 and has averaged a total audience of 7.5 million per episode this season.
