‘America’s Got Talent’ recap: No surprises as YouTube acts advance
No shockers here. The most talented acts from the “America’s Got Talent†YouTube round moved on to the semifinals on Wednesday night’s results show.
U.S. Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas, who cutely showed up wearing both her gold medals, proved to be a chipper guest co-host, ably helping Nick Cannon read from the teleprompter.
YouTube-fueled pop duo Karmin performed and then thanked their fans for their success.
The producers made good on a promise to air a Justin Bieber video preview.
And Randall, the voice from the viral “honey badger†video, proved -- if anyone needed further proof after Tuesday night’s performance show -- that YouTube fame does not always transition well onto a bigger stage or screen.
Perhaps the only surprise of the evening was how dull a day in Howard Stern’s life turns out to be, if the day-in-the-life video we were shown provided an accurate glimpse. He works. He gets driven to the show. He works some more. Alas, no real YouTube viral-video-worthy interludes. You know things are dull when even Stern can’t liven them up.
And so to the results. Moving on to the semifinals are dance group Academy of Villains, young country singer Bria Kelly, illusionist The Magic of Puck, and bird whisperer Clint Carvalho, who just edged out cute singer/strummer Drew Erwin.
Stern told Erwin he had the world “by the balls,†thanks to his good looks, and Sharon Osbourne allowed that the teen was talented as well -- so at least he could console himself with their compliments.
Next week, the wild-card round. Who are your wild-card picks? And will we ever get to the semifinals?
