‘The Office’ series finale will put in some overtime

Looks like “The Office†is putting in a little overtime before clocking out of its nine-year run.

NBC announced Tuesday that the long-running comedy’s final episode, which was already slated to take up an hour, will now extend an additional 15 minutes--airing from 9 to 10:15 p.m. ET/PT on May 16.

We can’t say we’re all that surprised. When The Times spoke to Greg Daniels, the show’s developer/executive producer/show runner, he was gearing up to make edits on the final episode--a daunting task, he said.

“There’s all these moments and you want to make sure everybody has a chance to have some closure on their stories and say goodbye or whatever,†he said. It was a big question of trying to fit everything in. That’s the big issue right now because we have an 81-minute cut for the final episodes, and we have to cut it down to about 41 or 42 minutes. That’s half of it! I don’t know how we’re gonna to do it.â€

Looks like he and NBC were able to compromise -- the good ol’ Michael Scott way.

Because of the carryover, drama “Hannibal†will air from 10:15-11 p.m. ET/PT with “limited interruption.â€
