Texas blues-rock guitar hero Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band Double Trouble are the runaway fan favorites for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2015, according to just-concluded balloting at the hall’s website.

Vaughan, who died at 35 in a 1990 helicopter crash, collected more than 18 million votes, or 31% of all fan ballots cast, putting him well ahead of second-place Nine Inch Nails, which got 13.1 million votes, or 22.2%.

Rounding out the fans’ Top 5 are Joan Jett & the Blackhearts (8.9 million votes, or 15.1%), Bill Withers (3.8 million, 6.5%) and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band (3.7 million, 6.3%).

Those five highest vote-getting acts each will get one additional “fan vote†added to their totals from ballots cast by the Rock Hall’s 700-plus voting members.

Other acts in contention for next year’s induction, results of which will be announced next week, are Lou Reed, War, Green Day, Sting, N.W.A, Kraftwerk, the Smiths, the Spinners, the Marvelettes and Chic.

Winners will be feted at the 2015 Rock Hall of Fame induction ceremony to be held April 18 in Cleveland, Ohio, the home of the Hall of Fame and Museum.
