British rock band Radiohead has announced a brief run of summer headlining concerts, including two nights at the Shrine in Los Angeles. The band, which is awakening from an extended hibernation, will play a gig on Aug. 4 and Aug. 8 at the 6,300-capacity venue. The shows will be the first in Southern California since their headlining slots at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2012.

In addition to the Los Angeles sets, Radiohead has also announced two nights at Madison Square Garden in New York. They will occur on July 26 and July 27 and will follow a series of gigs in Amsterdam, Paris and London. In the fall, the band will do two nights at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City.

The more intimate concerts are in addition to worldwide festival shows across the summer, including Primavera Sound in Barcelona, Spain; Secret Solstice in Reykjavik, Iceland; the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival in Montreal, Canada; and Lollapalooza in Chicago.

Why all the activity? The band is readying the release of a new studio project. The catch? Radiohead will first deliver it not via surprise download, iPad app or virtual reality platform, but the old-fashioned way: live onstage. According to the Primavera Sound press release, the festival will feature “the presentation of the new album by the British band Radiohead.â€

The unnamed record will be the follow-up to the band’s 2012 album, “The King of Limbs.†But as is often the case with Radiohead, little else is known. Tickets for the show at the Shrine go on sale March 18 at 10 a.m. Tickets for Mexico City will go on sale March 16 at 11 a.m. local time.
