Phoenix releases new song, ‘Entertainment,’ from upcoming album
The year of Phoenix has begun.
After announcing last week that it would release a new album in April, the French band on Monday posted the disc’s first song, “Entertainment,†on YouTube. It’s a speedy electro-rock jam built around the group’s signature live-disco guitar, as well as a giant-sized synth hook that after a few spins is reminding Pop & Hiss of some of the rave-ier moments from Coldplay’s “Mylo Xyloto.†(Listen to “Entertainment†below.)
Due out in the U.S. on April 23, “Bankrupt!†will serve as the highly anticipated follow-up to 2009’s “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix,†which won the Grammy Award for alternative music album and spawned the semi-hit singles “Lisztomania†and “1901.†Phoenix co-produced the new album with Philippe Zdar, who also oversaw “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.â€
Song titles on the 10-track set include “Trying to Be Cool,†“Drakkar Noir†and the especially promising “S.O.S. in Bel Air.â€
Phoenix is to launch a world tour in Vancouver next month, not long before the band is set to arrive in Southern California for a headlining performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. It’s scheduled to take the big stage in Indio on April 13 and April 20.
