New album from Queens of the Stone Age due out in June

Elton John. Dave Grohl. Trent Reznor.

Those are just a few of the guests set to appear on “...Like Clockwork,†the new Queens of the Stone Age album which the California rock band announced Tuesday will arrive in June. In a statement, frontman Josh Homme described the disc, the group’s first for Matador Records following a long stint on Interscope, as “an audio documentary of a manic year.â€

The band previously offered England’s NME a more colorful description: “You’re running in a dream in a codeine cabaret, then your alarm goes off and you wake up. That’s kinda what our record sounds like.â€

The studio follow-up to 2007’s “Era Vulgaris,†“...Like Clockwork†features further contributions by Mark Lanegan, Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears and Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, who hired Homme to co-produce their 2009 disc “Humbug.†Ex-Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri is to appear as well.

Visitors to the group’s website can hear what seem to be snippets of songs from the new album, including a bit of choral vocals and a typically swaggering boogie-metal riff.

Late last year Queens of the Stone Age made a goofy behind-the-scenes film from the studio with the English comedian Matt Berry. We can’t show it to you here thanks to some naughty language, but it’s available to watch on YouTube.
