Watch out, Carly Rae Jepsen -- your would-be replacement has arrived.

It was only a little over a year ago that Jepsen’s smash hit “Call Me Maybe†was enjoying its reign atop various worldwide charts, an omnipresence that began after Justin Bieber heard the song on Canadian radio and tweeted his approval.

Since then, however, pop culture has been tough on our Carly Rae, who’s suffered through disappointing sales of her album “Kiss†-- wildly underrated, by the way -- and lost out on the Grammy Award for pop solo performance to a boring live track by Adele, of all things. (As it happens, Jepsen plays L.A.’s Greek Theatre on Sunday; perhaps Pop & Hiss will see you there.)

She’s a 14-year-old Long Island native whom the superstar discovered on YouTube, and according to a statement from their record label, Bieber “has been cultivating her talents for a couple of years.†Even more important, the label says, “She’s now ready to break through as he once did.â€
