Katy Perry will hit the road next year in support of her album “Prism,†the pop star announced Monday.

The news came in a wee-hours tweet from Perry, who wrote that she was “ecstatic†to reveal the initial dates of what she’s calling the Prismatic World Tour.

Set to launch May 7 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the trek is to wind its way through England and Scotland before ending up at London’s O2 Arena for three shows May 27-30. Perry’s support act for the British run will be Icona Pop, the Swedish duo responsible for the shouty stadium-rave hit “I Love It.â€

Icona Pop will be busy: Last week Miley Cyrus announced that she’d selected the group to open a string of upcoming North American arena shows (including a Feb. 22 stop at Staples Center).

Addressing her fans in countries besides Britain, Perry said on Twitter, “DON’T WORRY -- more GLOBAL tour dates coming soon! I can’t wait to get closer to ALL of you than ever before.â€

The singer’s previous road show, called the California Dreams Tour, earned a total gross of $48.8 million in 2011, according to Billboard, which ranked the trek at No. 13 on that year’s list of top-earning tours.

On Sunday, Perry is expected to open the American Music Awards, which are to be broadcast live from L.A.’s Nokia Theatre.
