She roared, and her fans listened.

Katy Perry entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1 on Wednesday with her third album, “Prism,†which last week sold 286,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

That’s the largest one-week total for a female artist so far this year, according to Billboard’s Keith Caulfield, who noted that “Prism†outsold Miley Cyrus’ “Bangerz†during its first week in stores by 16,000 copies. Acts that’ve scored bigger debuts in 2013 include Daft Punk, Drake and Justin Timberlake, whose “The 20/20 Experience†is the year’s bestselling album. (This month, Timberlake notched his second No. 1 disc of the year with a sequel, “The 20/20 Experience -- 2 of 2.â€)

Perry’s feat follows a frenzy of promotional activity that included performances on “Saturday Night Live†and “Good Morning America,†as well a concert last week at the Hollywood Bowl in which the singer did her hit single “Roar†with help from Ellie Goulding, Sara Bareilles, Tegan and Sara and Kacey Musgraves

In an interview with The Times, Perry said the newly grown-up “Prism†-- which features songs inspired by her 2011 divorce from English comedian Russell Brand -- reflects the fact that she’s ready for her 30s.

“I hear it’s so much better than your 20s,†she added.

Three other albums entered the top 10 this week -- Fifth Harmony’s “Better Together†at No. 6, DJ Khaled’s “Suffering From Success†at No. 7 and AFI’s “Burials†at No. 9 -- though Caulfield pointed out that “Prism†had sold more copies than the records at Nos. 2 through 9 combined.

As a result, he wrote, “overall album sales fell to a historic low,†with 4.49 million albums sold last week.
