The Eagles hit the road for 2013 summer tour
This post has been updated. See note below for details.
Here’s a twist: a situation where a trip to Las Vegas is the safe bet for anyone who doesn’t want to gamble.
The Eagles will be hitting the road for a summer tour in the wake of the “History of the Eagles†documentary now running on Showtime, and tickets for the first round of shows will become available first to American Express cardholders on March 23, and then go on general sale March 28.
The first 11 shows, however, include no stops in Southern California, but constitute a run through the nine Eastern states and Ontario, beginning July 6 in Louisville, Ky., and concluding July 25 in Bethel, N.Y.
The only date west of the Mississippi that the long-running country-rock band has on the books for now is March 23 at the MGM Grand’s Garden Arena. Odds are good that the group will add more shows and most likely at least one in the Southland, but for those who don’t want to venture that wager, the Vegas stop is the sure thing.

Since the two-part, three-hour documentary began showing on Showtime, three Eagles hits compilations have been moving back up the ranks of the Billboard 200 albums chart. “The Eagles/Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975†remains tied on the Recording Industry Assn. of America’s list of bestselling albums in history at No. 1 with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,†each collecting certified sales of 29 million copies.
Meanwhile, “The History of the Eagles†will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on April 30. Both formats will feature a three-disc set encompassing the two parts of the narrative story of the band’s creation and rise to fame, with a third disc devoted to the group’s 1977 concert in Washington, D.C., on the Hotel California tour.
Update on March 22: An earlier edition of this post said the Eagles documentary is on HBO. It is being carried on Showtime.
