Arcade Fire to launch North American arena tour in 2014

What does a once-scrappy indie-rock band do after scoring its second No. 1 album? Announce an upcoming tour of some of North America’s biggest venues.

That’s what Arcade Fire did Thursday, less than a week after the Montreal group’s “Reflektor†debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart with sales of 140,000 copies.

Set to launch March 6 in Louisville, Ky., the trek will extend through Aug. 30, when Arcade Fire is to play a hometown show at Montreal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau.

No Southland dates are currently listed on the itinerary -- which includes stops at the Gorge in Seattle and Mountain View’s Shoreline Amphitheatre (where the band recently performed as part of Neil Young’s annual Bridge School benefit) -- though additional shows are to be announced.

Last month Arcade Fire played L.A. on several occasions during the run-up to “Reflektor’s†release, including a gig outside the Capitol Records building and a Halloween concert at the Palladium.

And Pop & Hiss wouldn’t be surprised if we see the band turn up around town near the Grammy Awards, which are to be handed out Jan. 26. In 2011 Arcade Fire won the prestigious album of the year award for its previous record, “The Suburbs.â€
