Yoko Ono posts photo of John Lennon's glasses to protest gun violence

In 1980, the Beatles’ John Lennon was shot and killed outside the Dakota apartment building in New York City. It was far from the first or last high-profile incident of gun violence in America, but the memory is still painful.

On Wednesday, his widow, Yoko Ono, posted a harrowing reminder of that loss on Twitter: a photo of Lennon’s iconic eyeglasses smeared with blood.

The photo, which was also used on the cover of Ono’s album “Season of Glass,” included a note that more than a million people have been killed by guns in America since the day of Lennon’s murder in December 1980.

“The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience,” Ono wrote. “After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him. Yoko Ono Lennon.”

Wednesday would have been the couple’s 44th wedding anniversary.
