DiCaprio is well-suited in trailer for ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’
Leonardo DiCaprio couldn’t quite give up the lavish lifestyle of Jay Gatsby.
In the newly released trailer for “The Wolf of Wall Street,†we see similar themes in the stories, though “Wolf†is set in the 1990s, about 70 years after the Roaring ‘20s world of “Gatsby.â€
The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, follows Jordan Belfort (DiCaprio), a fast-talking money-hungry 26-year-old financier, who boldly says in the trailer, “The year I turned 26, I made $49 million, which really pissed me off because it was three shy of a million a week.â€
The film is based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, who eventually spent 22 months in jail for commiting stock market fraud and whose aggressive nature landed him the nickname “The Wolf of Wall Street.†He wrote two bestselling memoirs based on his experiences.
This is another in a long list of collaborations between Scorsese and DiCaprio; others include “The Departed†(2006) and “The Aviator†(2004). “The Aviator†got DiCaprio an Academy Award nomination for lead actor for his portrayal of Howard Hughes, a young millionaire who teeters on the brink of hysteria in his pursuit of Hollywood fame as a director.
In “Wolf,†we enter a world of parties, drugs, women and money -- “We were making so much money that we didn’t know what to do with it,†DiCaprio says in the trailer, casually flicking dollar bills off a yacht. Matthew McConaughey and Jonah Hill also star in the film as Belfort’s mentor and partner.

Just like in “Gatsby,†the restlessness approached hysteria,†but for Belfort this restlessness is his demise, and, of course, he loses it all.
Trailers these days don’t really feel complete without a kicking soundtrack. This one features Kanye West’s new track “Black Skinhead†off of his album “Yeezus,†which comes out Tuesday.
“The Wolf of Wall Street†will open on Nov. 15.
