Stoner duo Cheech & Chong could be blazing a trail back to the big screen.

Tommy Chong revealed in a recent interview with CelebStoner.com that he and longtime comedy partner Cheech Marin are working on a new movie with director Jay Chandrasekhar, a member of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe who previously helmed “Super Troopers,†“The Dukes of Hazzard†and “Beerfest.â€

“He’s working on a script right now for us,†Chong said of Chandrasekhar. “We’ve had some preliminary meetings. It looks really good. It looks really funny. It will be about us going to a festival called the Burning Joint. All sorts of shenanigans happen. It’s going to be a lot of fun.â€

He added that the film could start shooting in the summer.

Cheech & Chong first found fame in the 1970s with their cannabis-laced stand-up routines, which they parlayed into a series of films including “Up in Smoke†(1978), “Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie†(1980) and “Still Smokin†(1983).

The two parted ways in the ‘80s because, Marin told The Times in 2010, they “ran out of stuff†after years of touring, recording and making movies.

If their new film pans out, it will mark the first real Cheech & Chong movie in more than 30 years. “Cheech & Chong’s Animated Movie,†based on their early comedy skits, was released last year but was created without the duo’s participation.
