Kanye West and Kim Kardashian reportedly expanding family with baby No. 4
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West are reportedly looking to make some big changes in the new year, including an expansion to their brood.
CNN reported Wednesday that the popular pair are expecting their fourth child, their second carried via gestational surrogate. Us Weekly first reported the news.
Kardashian West has been transparent over the years about her difficult pregnancies with her first two children.
When pregnant with North, 5, she suffered from pre-eclampsia — a complication that often sparks high blood pressure — and placenta accreta, which results when the placenta attaches too deeply in the uterine wall and does not detach after delivery.
Kardashian West again suffered from placenta accreta when pregnant with Saint, 3.
“After giving birth, your placenta is supposed to come out. But mine was stuck,†she told Elle last March. “That’s what women usually die from in childbirth — you hemorrhage and bleed to death and they can’t stop it.â€
She went on to describe the horrifying lengths her doctor had to go to in order to remove her placenta from her body. “To this day, if you mention it to [mom, Kris Jenner], she’ll cry. It was traumatic.â€
Given the medical risks involved, doctors suggested that West and Kardashian West opt for a gestational carrier for future children, which is the route the pair took for their third child, Chicago, born in January 2018.
Us Weekly reported that the fourth child is a male, due to arrive in early May. Representatives for the family did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment.
