‘Sex and the City 3’? Sarah Jessica Parker spills the truth

The final shoe has yet to drop for “Sex and the City’s†Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda, according to the franchise’s star, Sarah Jessica Parker.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean a third “Sex and the City†film based on the HBO comedy is already being cobbled together.

In an appearance Wednesday appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,†the 48-year-old actress confronted the notion of another iteration of the sartorially charged series about the sexual exploits and relationships of four well-heeled New York women.

The show aired from 1998 to 2004 on the premium cable channel and spawned two big-screen adaptations in 2008 and 2010. (The series also gave rise to a prequel based on Candace Bushnell’s “The Carrie Diaries.†The eponymous show is in its second season on the CW.)

“I’ve tried to make up some interesting answers every time I’ve been asked this question lately,†Parker said, addressing DeGeneres’ inquiry about “Sex and the City 3. “And the truth of the matter is there has been no real conversation about a third movie at all.â€

“I know there is a story, but whether or not the story is ever told remains truly really one of the great mysteries of all time,†said the fashion-forward star, who was there in capri overalls to promote the SJP Collection, her Nordstrom shoe line with Manolo Blahnik Chief Executive George Malkemus. Incidentally, there’s a d’Orsay-style pump in the line named Carrie.

Anyway, the yarn she’s referring to is the one she wove earlier this year in the February issue of InStyle magazine.

“A part of me thinks there is one last chapter to tell,†the cover star told the mag (via E!). “But timing is a peculiar thing. It isn’t a decision that can wait forever. I don’t want to have to wear muumuus!â€

The possibility was also touted by the series’ executive producer Michael Patrick King in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last month.

“Sarah Jessica and I both know what that final chapter is,†he said. “That doesn’t mean it will or should be told, but I do think there’s one story left. Whether it ever happens is a whole other situation. But there’s four girls, and those girls are still in my mind. There are other stories to tell and characters that haven’t even been written yet.â€

Two of the series’ other stars, Kim Cattrall and Kristen Davis, have already shown interest in another chapter, but Cynthia Nixon put the signature Miranda spin on the enthusiasm by saying that she believes they “had a wonderful ride†and thinks “it’s fine to let it go.â€

“It’s a very interesting balance of zeitgeist and letting go and coming back and figuring out if you’re done or you’re not done. I listen to people a lot, actually,†exec producer King said.

“What I do know is that there’s interest, but with interest comes non-interest. It’s all really about the stories, and if you actually think you have something left to say that would make it exciting and worthwhile for the fans’ time, that’s really the question. Not whether you can get away with it, not whether anybody will buy it, not whether you can make money on it. It’s really like, is there enough or more to say that would justify people risking seeing their favorite characters again? And I think there’s one chapter left.â€

So, what do you think those stories are? Would you want to see this fab four back on the big screen? Tell us in comments.
