Prince William has granted knighthood to Queen Elizabeth II’s and Duchess Catherine’s doctor, who led the St. Mary’s Hospital team that delivered Prince George last summer, according to reports out of Britain on Tuesday.

Marcus Setchell was dubbed Sir Marcus a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order during a Tuesday ceremony at Buckingham Palace, an investiture ceremony usually performed by the queen -- but William was there to do the honors instead.

Setchell, 70, the queen’s former gynecologist, practiced with the royal family for 24 years before retiring last year. He received the knighthood for his services to the royal family, according to the U.K.’s Telegraph and the Mirror.

“Well of course it’s a great honor and it’s very nice that I was able to serve her for 24 years and that the culmination of it was that Prince George should be born,†Setchell said.

The doctor chatted with the Duke of Cambridge during the ceremony, and William reportedly divulged that his son, the third in line to the British throne, was a “bouncing baby.â€

Setchell had previously described George’s birth as a “lovely experience,†and has delivered numerous royal babies, including Sophie, the Countess of Wessex’s two children, James, Viscount Severn, 6, and Lady Louise Windsor, 10, according to Us magazine.

Setchell delayed his retirement to oversee Prince George’s birth, and Catherine attended his retirement luncheon earlier this month.

William, 31, who was installed as the Knight of the Thistle in Edinburgh by the queen in 2012, participated in his first knighting ceremony back in October, when he knighted 88 citizens, including tennis star Andy Murray.

At a St. Patrick’s Day parade on Monday, the prince revealed that he and his wife, the former Kate Middleton, weren’t planning to have a second child just yet.
