Philip Seymour Hoffman funeral: Fellow actors pay their respects
A funeral Mass for actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was held Friday at St. Ignatius of Loyola church on Park Avenue in New York City, with dozens of acting luminaries turning out to bid farewell to the Oscar winner who died Sunday of an apparent heroin overdose.
The funeral followed a candlelight vigil for the actor Wednesday night as Broadway theaters at 7:45 p.m. dimmed their marquee lights in his memory, and a Thursday wake at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home on Madison Avenue attended by close friends and family, many of whom also attended the Mass.
Many of those in attendance had costarred with Hoffman: Meryl Streep in “Doubt,†Cate Blanchett in “The Talented Mr. Ripley,†Julianne Moore and John C. Reilly in both “Boogie Nights†and “Magnolia,†Catherine Keener in “Capote†and Joaquin Phoenix in “The Master,†to name a few.

Also there were Maya Rudolph and her partner, Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed a number of Hoffman films, including “Magnolia,†“Boogie Nights†and “The Master.†Ethan Hawke hugged Bobby Cannavale outside the church, and Justin Long and Justin Theroux embraced.
Hoffman’s longtime partner, costume designer and theater artistic director Mimi O’Donnell, attended with their three children, Willa, Tallulah and Conner. Screenwriter David Bar Katz, who found Hoffman’s body Sunday morning, was also there.
The body of Hoffman, 46, an Oscar winner for “Capote†who also appeared on stage and co-founded New York’s Labyrinth Theater Company, was found with a syringe still in his left forearm, with evidence of heroin use in his apartment. He was living separately from 14-year girlfriend O’Donnell at the time of his death.
