Paul Simon, Edie Brickell domestic-dispute case is dropped
If Paul Simon and Edie Brickell behave for the next 13 months, all will be forgiven.
By the legal system, at least.
A Connecticut court clerk said the prosecutor had decided not to follow through with the case that saw Simon, 72, and Brickell, 48, each slapped with a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge related to an alleged domestic-violence incident in April, the Hartford Courant reported Tuesday.
The prosecutor reserved the right to revive the case if either musician was charged again during the specified time period. A court date set for Tuesday was canceled.
Police had showed up at the couple’s home April 26 after receiving a 911 hang-up call that originated at the address. Finding minor injuries, officers put the two, married more than 22 years, in separate rooms and issued each a summons.
Simon told police that Brickell had slapped him and then he shoved her and called 911, the Courant said. It all went down in a cottage on their property that functions as a recording studio.
The two appeared in front of a Connecticut judge the Monday after their Saturday arrests.
“We’re fine, we love each other, we’re fine, we had an argument, it’s over,†Simon told reporters as he left the courthouse.
With luck, things will stay that way.
