Oprah Winfrey dons 3½-pound wig for O magazine cover
Oprah Winfrey has donned an O-shaped wig for the September issue of her O magazine, which will focus on all aspects of hair.
On the hair-raising cover, the media maven wears an orange dress and 3½-pound wig (about the weight of a small Chihuahua), created by stylist Kim Kimble, who has worked on “The Voice†and done Beyonce’s hair.
“Just revealed this new cover of O, The Oprah Magazine — one of my faves ever,†Winfrey wrote on her Facebook page Monday, posting a pic of herself on the cover. “Let’s talk about HAIR! Love this cover so much, I’m making it my new profile pic!

The issue, dubbed “An O Extravaganza,†will go through all aspects of hair “with a fine-tooth comb†and will be “exploring why hair has such a hold on us, how to change it, dye it, lose it, buzz it, and grow it out, and everything you need to make yours the best it can be,†USA Today reports.
As for the wig she wears on the cover: It was transported in bubble wrap and a custom-made, bright pink travel box with a built-in stand to keep it upright, according to the mag. It also garnered cracks about “The Lion King†and singers Diana Ross and Chaka Khan.
“I wish I could say it was all mine,†Winfrey said of her cover look. “In fact, though, it’s borrowed. And it feels like carrying around an extra head.â€
In contrast, Winfrey graced the last year’s September makeover issue showing off her natural locks without being blow-dried or ironed.
The September 2013 issue hits newsstands Aug. 13.
