For Leonardo DiCaprio, marriage is a ‘see what happens’ deal
Leonardo DiCaprio isn’t jumping on the marriage bandwagon any time soon, though “The Great Gatsby’s†titular star concedes that it isn’t totally out of the question.
The Hollywood bachelor turns 39 in September and is pretty optimistic about his 40s being “right around the corner.†So what of settling down, getting married or starting a family?
“I take it as it comes,†the actor told Extra. “We’ll see what happens in the future. We’ll see what happens. ... I don’t try to determine what the future will be. I take it day by day.â€

DiCaprio has previously been linked to a slew of beautiful women, including supermodel Gisele Bundchen (now married to Tom Brady), Victoria’s Secret model Erin Heatherton, GoDaddy.com model Bar Refaeli and “Gossip Girl†actress Blake Lively (now married to Ryan Reynolds). It isn’t clear if he’s seeing anyone now.
So what is in the cards for him? He said he wouldn’t mind taking a break from acting to focus on his environmental causes.
“To me, right now it’s about getting a little breather -- getting some time off. Not a permanent break or not an indefinite period, but you know, just a few months off to do some other things.â€
DiCaprio recently told Esquire that working on foreign sets strains a relationship.

“Six months of being on location or being off in Morocco or someplace like that is not the best thing for a relationship,†he said.
Perhaps some time off can alleviate that?
DiCaprio plays Jay Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s legendary 1920s character, in Baz Luhrmann’s opulent adaptation of the novel. The actor and director previously worked together on 1996’s “Romeo + Juliet.†But their latest film operates on a “choose-your-own interpretation of who these people are,†DiCaprio told The Times of Fitzgerald’s iconic characters manifested on screen.
“What makes ‘Gatsby’ the book that it is,†the actor said, “is that people still have conversations about it.â€
“When you make a movie, you have to be much more specific about everything you do,†DiCaprio continued to Extra. “You have to make choices as an actor and as a storyteller that dramatize these brilliant chapters. I think it’s a risk, just in the sense that it’s so beloved, and you’re almost setting yourself up for criticism in a lot of ways.â€
Luhrmann said he is acutely aware of those risks.
“I have one duty -- to the best of my ability to captain the storytelling team, and to tell and reveal the story,†he said at the film’s New York premiere Wednesday. “I set out to reveal ‘The Great Gatsby,’ but I also set out to do a movie of it.â€
In addition to Carey Mulligan as Gatsby’s lady love, Daisy Buchanan (she and DiCaprio share a pretty steamy kiss), the movie costars Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher. The 3-D flick is set to open May 10.
