Lady Gaga still ‘a bit woozy’ — and still younger than Madonna

Lady Gaga was groggy, grateful and a little bit remiss on Tuesday — though we can’t exactly interpret that last part for you.

The pop star, who’s on tour Down Under, was bouncing back from a head injury suffered mid-concert on Sunday night in New Zealand.

“Thank you so much for all the thoughtful messages,†the singer tweeted. “I feel a bit woozy but a little better everyday. Very happy to be in beautiful Australia.†She’s set to perform half-dozen dates in that country, starting with a gig Wednesday in Brisbane.

In the third of three Auckland shows, Gaga suffered what she and her makeup artist said was a concussion. Bending down to get a prop machine gun during the song “Judas,†she was whacked by a metal pole being moved by a backup dancer.

After a brief break Gaga rallied for 16 more songs, apologizing along the way because she thought she might have a concussion but promising to finish the show, MTV reported. And finish she did.

So we have to wonder, was the Sunday-night head-thwack possibly some karmic, wrath-of-Madonna, balance-of-the-universe thing?

With the Material Girl performing a seamless and seemingly mocking mashup of 1989’s “Express Yourself†and last year’s “Born This Way†on her MDNA tour, Gaga had taken the opportunity in New Zealand to start expressing herself in the matter. (A matter we thought had been settled a while back, actually.)

“It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves, you know, to put other people down, or make fun of them, or maybe make mockery of their work and that doesn’t make me feel good at all,†Gaga said from the Auckland stage, adding that she didn’t really want to fight back because all she cared about was the music.

And though she declined to “fight back,†Mother Monster did take time to passive-aggressively note that her elder was, in fact, her elder.

“Things are really different than they were 25 years ago,†said Gaga, who turned 26 in March, “and that’s what makes ‘Born This Way’ so relevant for me. We’re socially in a completely different place, and it’s OK.â€

(Madonna, of course, was recently in a completely different place, Istanbul, where she decided it was OK to flash her breast for no particular reason. But that’s another story.)

No matter the karmic back story, the fact of the matter was that Gaga looked pretty beaten up in the photo she posted online. “Emerging from hours of sleep,†she tweeted along with the picture. “Still remiss if I should go outside, with this clonker I may be of questionable styling.â€

Wait — “Still remiss if I should go†— what?

Never mind. We’ll assume that’s just be the bump on her head talking.
