Figure skater Johnny Weir, husband Victor Voronov split, he tweets
Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir has announced that he and his husband, Victor Voronov, have split.
Weir, 29, an NBC commentator during the Sochi Winter Olympics, broke the news on Twitter Wednesday.
“It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together. My heart hurts, and I wish him well,†he wrote.

“I have been sad for a long time,†Weir later expanded in a statement (via RadarOnline). “And unfortunately don’t foresee a way to resolve our current marital issues.â€
E! News reported that Weir posted a tweet, which was promptly removed earlier Tuesday, hinting at the news.
“A sad announcement is coming soon, and the only people I wish to speak with are @TheEllenShow and @Oprah,†he is said to have written.
The stylish skater wed Voronov, a lawyer, during a small civil ceremony in New York in 2011 on New Year’s Eve. Weir recently said that his husband had been out for only a month before their wedding.
The figure skater, who has won three U.S. national championships, spoke openly about his marriage with Access Hollywood just last month.

“A marriage between two guys is different than what I imagine a marriage between a man and a woman [to be],†he said. “I mean, we’re both constantly trying to fight to wear the pants in the relationship. ... It’s constant fireworks. It’s very boom, boom, boom.â€
Before this year’s Olympics, the couple reportedly had a domestic violence dispute in January that resulted in Voronov filing a police report alleging that Weir bit him during an altercation, Radar reported. The saga played out earlier this month when the couple appeared in New Jersey court together and requested that the Lyndhurst Municipal Court judge dismiss the case. It was dismissed on March 5.
It is unclear if the couple will remain separated or will begin divorce proceedings.
