John Stamos is feeling better than he has in a decade -- those words coming after the TV star completed a stint in rehab over the summer.

The “Full House†alum, who stars in the new Fox comedy “Grandfathered,†which premieres Tuesday, appeared on the “Today†show on Monday to promote his upcoming series and explained to Matt Lauer that a couple of things brought on his decision to seek treatment.

“I lost my mother last year, who was the love of my life -- obviously a difficult time for me,†he said. “I had this moment, I had some time off and I had a decision to make. So I took advantage of the time and I made a choice, and I’m just so grateful that I did.â€

The 52-year old hunk said he’d contemplated getting treatment in the past and had a lot of goodwill behind him, “so it was time.â€

Stamos checked himself into a residential rehab program, where he was said to be undergoing substance-abuse treatment, according to previous reports.

Though the former soap star didn’t elaborate or confirm the focus of his treatment, the move came after he was arrested in Beverly Hills in June on suspicion of driving under the influence. A hearing in that case was scheduled for Sept. 11.

In late July, he announced his triumphant release from rehab on Twitter.

“I’m back! Took a month to take care of things. Healthy. Feeling grateful for the love & support of family & friends,†he wrote.
