Demi Lovato gives fans a taste of serenity — from her new book
Demi Lovato has a new book coming out, and Monday on Facebook she gave fans a taste of what’s to come.
In the book’s March 15 entry, Lovato reflects on the day that’s the anniversary of her sobriety and recovery, and shares the serenity prayer.
“Those who are recovering use this prayer on a daily basis, but what is truly amazing about it is that you don’t have to be in recovery to speak these words,†she writes. “I have spoken this prayer almost every day of my recovery and it has helped simplify the sea of emotions and feelings that often run through me, especially on a hard day. We do the best we can in life, we take things one day at a time, and sometimes we all just need a simple reminder of that.â€
In advance of her the release of “Staying Strong 365 Days a Year,†Lovato revealed to People that after treatment for anorexia, bulimia and more she’s still reluctant to watch herself on TV.
“It is still hard being in front of the camera when you have suffered from eating disorders, and I still don’t watch my episodes,†“The X Factor†judge said.
Lovato added that without going to treatment -- which she did in fall 2010 after a meltdown while touring with the Jonas Brothers -- she wouldn’t have the option to ignore herself on the tube. Why? “The harsh reality is that I wouldn’t be alive,†she said.
Wow.
In addition to the inspirational book, Lovato has also signed on for a tell-all memoir, though she says she’s not sure how much of “all†she’ll tell.
“Yes, I’ve been very honest, but if people really knew how dark and deep my struggles got -- not just with my eating disorder but with drugs and alcohol -- they’d be really shocked,†she said in the print version of Entertainment Weekly (via Us Weekly). “But I’ll most likely end up saying everything. Maybe it’ll help other people in the industry who are headed down the wrong path.â€
