While Cory Monteith’s character on “Glee†decides what he wants to be when he grows up, Monteith in real life has decided to enter rehab.

The actor “has voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction,†his rep told the Ministry on Monday. “He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.â€

Monteith’s “Glee†costar and real-life love interest Lea Michele, 26, passed along her good wishes publicly.

“I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this,†Michele told People, which first reported the rehab news, adding that she’s “grateful†and “proud†that he made the move.

It’s not the 30-year-old actor’s first trip to rehab: He revealed in 2011 to Parade that he’d gone through rehab at 19, after a family intervention. At the time, after years of drinking and smoking weed, and dropping out of high school at 16, he was using “anything and everything, as much as possible,†he said. “I had a serious problem.â€

Monteith finally received a high school diploma two years ago from an alternative high school, he told the mag. He’d been on “Glee†for a couple of years at that time.

He said at the time that he was speaking out about his struggles because, “I don’t want kids to think it’s OK to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors too.â€
