Lea Michele dedicates Teen Choice award to the late Cory Monteith

“Glee� star Lea Michele was honored at the Teen Choice Awards and dedicated her win to her late boyfriend and former costar, Cory Monteith.

“I just wanted to be here today to personally thank all of you and tell everyone out there how much all of your love and support has meant to me over these very past difficult few weeks,� Michele told the audience Sunday in her first public appearance since Monteith died from an overdose of alcohol and heroin on July 13.

Michele, sporting a necklace that spelled out “Cory,� won the award for actress in a comedy in the ceremony at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. The show was broadcast on Fox.

“For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did,� the teary actress said, “I promise that with your love we’re gonna get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world.�

Michele plays Rachel on “Glee,� while Monteith portrayed her sometimes sweetheart, Finn. Producers of the Fox series have said they plan to deal with the actor’s death in the third episode of the season that begins next month.

Other winners of the Teen Choice Awards, as chosen by fans in online voting, included “Iron Man 3� for action movie, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2� for sci-fi/fantasy movie, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower� for dramatic movie, “Pitch Perfect� for comedy movie, “Pretty Little Liars� for dramatic TV show, “Glee� for comedy TV show, “NCIS: Los Angeles� for action TV show and “The Vampire Diaries� for sci-fi/fantasy TV show.
