Anna Chlumsky of ‘Veep’ toasts Emmy nomination, 1-week-old baby girl
The term “my girl†probably has new meaning for Anna Chlumsky.
The “Veep†actress, who was nominated Thursday for supporting actress in a comedy for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, gave birth last week to a baby girl. Talk about much to celebrate!
Chlumsky and husband Shaun So, both 32, welcomed their first child, daughter Penelope Joan So, on July 11 in New York, she told People. Chlumsky and So tied the knot in 2008 and announced that they were expecting last March.
On Thursday, the former “My Girl†child star was awake and tending to her baby when the Emmy nominations were announced.
“I was up because I was feeding my daughter, Penelope, who is a week old. My husband and I were hanging in the nursery,†she told The Times. “My manager let me know, and he was so excited that I reacted more to his excitement. It just came out as uncontrollable laughter.â€
Chlumsky, who plays the vice president’s chief of staff on the HBO political satire starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, said she was pleased that her daughter was born before the nominations.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Emmy nominations 2013
“I’m so glad that she was born first, because I feel very grounded about it. I’m so terribly grateful and appreciative to be noticed for my work, which I think is what this is all about. Your community noticing what it is you do. Having her, and knowing that I’ve got to feed her when she wakes up again -- it definitely keeps you on the ground a little bit. My priorities are in check.â€
But the new mom does seem a tad concerned about Emmy night on Sept. 22, saying it will require “a logistical feat†by mother and daughter.
But if Claire Danes can nurse at the Golden Globes between awards, we say you can too, Anna.
The actress plans to celebrate her nod by popping open a bottle of Champagne even though she’s breast-feeding. That notion got her spilling the beans about a whole ‘nother subject -- one that definitely stakes its claim in the Ministry’s celebrity parenting handbook.
“Ages ago, my husband and I went to Belgium and we had a Westvleteren, which is a very rare beer. So four years ago, I was like, when we have a kid, this will be my first drink afterwards. And supposedly one glass of beer helps milk production. So we stored it in a cool, dark place and had it†after Penelope was born, Chlumsky said. “It was excellent. And this is way, way too much information, but I did start making milk the next day.â€
