Fire hits Tyler Perry’s Atlanta studio for second time this year
Fire hit Tyler Perry’s studio in southwest Atlanta on Monday, the second time a blaze has erupted at the entertainment complex this year.
A representative for the filmmaker described the new fire as “small,†and said it was put out with a fire extinguisher. “The Atlanta Fire Dept. responded within minutes and all is fine,†Perry’s spokesperson wrote in an email, adding that no filming was taking place when the fire occurred.
The Atlanta Fire Department did not respond to requests for comment.
In May, a more serious fire broke out at the 30-acre complex, which brought 100 firefighters, 13 engines and 12 trucks to the scene. The four-alarm fire, the cause of which was undetermined, inflicted serious damage to a backlot facade.
Perry, who has a deal with Lionsgate Entertainment, keeps a 200,000-square-foot production site, including sound stages and a chapel, in Atlanta. His next on-screen role will come in October’s crime thriller “Alex Cross,†in which he plays a detective seeking to find the person responsible for murdering a member of his family.
