TV ratings: ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ rises; ‘Voice’ slips but wins Tuesday

Tuesday’s episode of “The Voice,†the final round of blind auditions, fell in the ratings from last week but was still the top show in prime time, propelling NBC to a nightly victory in a key demographic.

“The Voice†averaged 13.1-million viewers, according to early numbers from Nielsen. Its rating among 18-to-49-year-olds, the demographic preferred by advertisers, fell 17% from last week to a 3.4. In the 18-to-49 category, a ratings point equals about 1.3-million people.

The new comedy “About a Boy†also fell week-to-week by 16% in a key demo to a 2.1 and drew an overall audience of 7.9 million. Fellow newcomer “Growing Up Fisher†was down slightly from its most recent episode and held onto most of its lead-in, earning a 1.8 in 18-to-49. After the comedy hour, “Chicago Fire†scored a 2.0 and 7.3-million viewers, improving on last week.

TV viewing among the key 18-to-49 age group was generally down on the first Tuesday night of daylight saving time.

Despite that, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.†grew 11% to a 2.0 rating with CBS in reruns, after falling sharply last week. “The Goldbergs†held steady with a 1.5, while “Trophy Wife†rose a bit from last week’s low to a 0.9. The new series “Mind Games†surged to a 0.9 after notching a weak 0.6 a week ago.

Fox’s comedies were generally down. “Glee†lost a tenth of a point for a 0.9, matching its lowest ever. “New Girl†and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine†slipped to a 1.3 and a 1.2, respectively.

On the CW, “The Originals†gained 12% from last week to a 0.9 in 18-to-49 (1.9-million viewers overall).

CBS only aired reruns but still had the edge over NBC in average total viewership. (9.4 million vs. 9.2 million).
