TV ratings: ‘Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’ wins; ‘SHIELD’ hits low

The “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show†on CBS turned more than a few heads Tuesday night, pushing the network up to a ratings win.

The one-hour 10 p.m. telecast drew 9.71 million viewers and a rating of 3.4 among key 18-to-49-year-olds, according to early numbers from Nielsen, making it the top-rated telecast among young adults on the major networks. Its rating in the demographic fell 6% from last year, though total viewership increased by 2%.

Leading up to the runway lingerie showcase were the two most-watched shows of the night, “NCIS†(18.8 million viewers) and “NCIS: Los Angeles†(14.7 million viewers). In the key demographic, “NCIS†fell 7% to a 2.8 from its last original episode three weeks ago, while “NCIS: Los Angeles†was flat with its two-week-ago score of 2.4.

CBS won the night outright with an average audience of 14.4 million and an 18-49 rating of 2.8.

On ABC, there was more trouble for the freshman comic book spy series, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.†Tuesday night’s midseason finale dropped 23% in 18-49 to a rating of 2.0, compared with the performance of its last original episode two weeks ago. That’s a low for the show that had a big debut at the beginning of the fall season.

ABC saw a big gain from “The Goldbergs†(up 21% to a 1.7) and a smaller rise from “Trophy Wife†(up 9% to a 1.2.). “ABC News: What Would You Do?†pulled a 0.9 rating and 3.1 million viewers overall.

In the young adults demo, NBC’s lineup was down across the board with “Biggest Loser,†“The Voice†and “Chicago Fire.†Still, “The Voice,†now with three remaining contestants, was the second-highest-rated show of the night in 18-49, with a 3.1. “Chicago Fire†hooked its biggest total audience ever with about 9.27 million watching.

Fox’s fourth annual “American Country Awards†brought in about 5.1 million viewers and a rating of 1.4, flat with last year.
