Production of ‘Midnight Rider’ film suspended after death on set
Production of the Gregg Allman biopic “Midnight Rider†has been suspended after the death of crew member Sarah Jones, 27, who was struck by a freight train while filming in Savannah, Ga., last week.
Unclaimed Freight Productions Inc., the Pasadena company producing the film, and Meddin Studios in Georgia, did not immediately respond to calls and emails for comment. But a person close to the crew confirmed the news to the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.
Liz Biber, spokeswoman for Open Road Films, the film’s U.S. distributor, declined to comment on reports that the company is pulling out of the film.

On Monday, Steven Poster, president of the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600, issued a statement saying, “The safety of our crews is of paramount importance to this union, and we will work tirelessly to ensure that a tragedy of this kind never happens again.â€
To honor Jones, her friends and family have launched a “Slates for Sarah†social media campaign. More than 30,000 people from around the world posted comments and pictures of Sarah’s name written on film slates on the Facebook page.
A memorial was held for Jones on Wednesday in South Carolina, according to the Facebook page. An additional celebration of life for Jones is scheduled for Sunday in Atlanta.
