Gaga, Bieber and Eminem streams boost RIAA song certifications
Better late than never.
Artists such as Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Eminem got a big boost in the eyes of the Recording Industry Assn. of America in May as the music business tracker began to count streams of songs online.
The industry group said on Wednesday it made a record 153 gold and platinum certifications for digital singles in May.
This comes after the RIAA announced early last month that it now includes streams of songs on services such as Spotify, MOG and Rdio, rather than just digital downloads of singles.
The group also includes video streams on services like YouTube, Vevo and MTV.com.
The updates to the program helped shoot Bieber’s “Baby†to 12-times platinum, the RIAA’s highest song certification ever.
Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie†rose to 11-times platinum status and Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance†hit 10-times platinum.
