Disney’s ‘Frozen’ crosses $1-billion mark with Japan still to go
The still-hot “Frozen†has joined the billion-dollar box-office club.
Disney’s animated fairy tale musical is expected to pass $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales on Sunday, according to studio estimates.
“Frozen,†which was released wide in the United States and Canada in late November, has generated $388.7 million in box-office revenue from those two countries, while overseas sales have reached $611.5 million.

The long-running picture is nominated for two Oscars, which air Sunday night. The nods include best original song for “Let it Go†by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and best animated feature.
In the best animated feature category, it faces “Despicable Me 2,†“The Croods,†“The Wind Rises†and “Ernest & Celestine.â€
Not adjusting for ticket-price inflation, “Frozen†is the second-highest-grossing animated movie ever, behind “Toy Story 3,†and is the top animated non-sequel.
Released in 2010, “Toy Story 3†hauled in $1.06 billion.

In foreign release, the movie is running in 35 countries, led by South Korea with a gross of $76.2 million. The United Kingdom has accounted for $63.5 million, followed by Germany with $47.7 million.
The movie still has yet to open in one foreign market: Japan.
Other Disney movies that have reached $1 billion globally include “The Avengers,†“Iron Man 3,†the second and fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean†films, “Toy Story 3†and “Alice in Wonderland.â€
