After two consecutive years at the Beacon Theatre on New York’s Upper West Side, the Tony Awards ceremony will return to the more spacious Radio City Music Hall this year.

Organizers of Broadway’s biggest night announced Monday that the annual awards ceremony will take place Sunday, June 9. The nominations will be announced April 30. The Tonys are presented by the American Theatre Wing and the Broadway League.

Last year’s big winners were the musical “Once,†based on the 2006 indie movie, and the play “Clybourne Park†by Bruce Norris.

In the last two years, the Tonys have been held at the Beacon Theatre, a venue that usually hosts rock concerts and that has a capacity of about 2,900 seats. Radio City Musical Hall has a capacity of about 5,900.

The move to the Beacon in 2011 was necessitated by the Cirque du Soleil production “Zarkana,†which moved into Radio City Music Hall.

The host for the last two years has been Neil Patrick Harris. Organizers haven’t announced the host for this year’s ceremony.

The telecast on CBS is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Eastern time, with a delay for the West Coast. The telecast has struggled with falling ratings in recent years. Last year’s broadcast drew 6 million viewers, down from 6.9 million the year before. That was down from 7 million in 2010 and 7.4 million viewers in 2009.

To put those numbers in perspective, the recent Academy Awards telecast on ABC drew an estimated 40.3 million viewers this year, up from 39.3 million in 2012.
