Pinterest grew more than 4,000% in one year, report says
Pinterest, the social network that has burst onto the scene as of late, grew a staggering 4,377% in the last year, according to a report.
ComScore’s “State of the U.S. Internet†revealed the findings showing that Pinterest is far outpacing its competitors in growth at this point, as well as others statistical changes happening on the Web.
Coming up after Pinterest was Tumblr with a growth of 168%, LinkedIn with 67% and Twitter with 58%. Facebook saw growth of only 4%, but as reported by TechCrunch, it had the highest amount of reach of any social network.
Pinterest users, however, were found by the report to be spending more money, buying more items and conducting more transactions than others in the social network market.
In the mobile realm, the ComScore study found the number of mobile Internet users will surpass desktop users by 2014. In the last year, smartphone users shot up 47%, and the number of users who have both a phone and a tablet grew by 308% in the last year.
As for American online users, their presence on the Web has dwindled, from 66% of the online population in 1996 to 13% now.
In e-commerce, Amazon was the leader. It saw 30% growth in the last year, and it had the most unique visitors online among retail sites, beating second-place Apple by quite a bit.
The full ComScore report is expected to be available online next week.
