Chinese glass firm from Netflix’s ‘American Factory’ documentary to expand in Ohio
A Chinese automotive glass manufacturer’s $46-million investment in its plant in Ohio will expand the current facility and add 100 jobs, the company said Monday.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine joined company officials and China Consul Gen. Huang Ping in making the announcement at the Fuyao Glass America facility in Moraine, near Dayton.
The Fuyao factory was the subject of a 2019 Netflix documentary, “American Factory.†The film tracks how, in 2014, the plant that General Motors had closed in 2008 was reopened as an automotive glass factory by Fuyao.
“This expansion further consolidates Fuyao’s footprint in Ohio and demonstrates confidence in the people who are on the job here,†the Republican governor said.
Fuyao’s project includes investment for research and development and for purchasing equipment to help produce more after-market auto glass, according to the release from the governor’s office. The company also will acquire an additional 161,000 square feet at the Moraine facility.
Fuyao currently has 2,300 employees at the plant.
