Owlwood’s $90-million sale continues spate of high-end transactions in L.A.
It appears that the landmark sale of the Playboy Mansion was only the tip of the high-end real estate iceberg. In Holmby Hills, another storied estate has changed hands for an amount that puts it right up there with the priciest residential transactions ever recorded in Los Angeles County.
Here’s a look at the most expensive home sales recorded in public record from Sept. 11 through Sept. 24.
$90 million — Holmby Hills
Owlwood, the Carolwood Drive estate once home to actor Tony Curtis and later singing duo Sonny and Cher, sold to a development group headed by Woodridge Luxury Homes chief Robert Shapiro. The seller was Dawn Arnall, the widow of late billionaire and Ameriquest Capital Corp. founder Roland Arnall.
Located on about 10 acres, the residence centers on a 12,200-square-foot Italian Revival-style mansion that has nine bedrooms. Two guesthouses, a pair of gatehouses and a tennis court also reside on the grounds.
The Arnalls bought the storied home in 2002 along with two adjacent properties — the former homes of actress Jayne Mansfield and actress-swimmer Esther Williams — that were combined into one estate. Both residences were later razed, though the pool house and 70-foot-long swimming pool from Williams’ former home were retained.
Ann H. Dashiell of Douglas Elliman held the listing. Adam Rosenfeld and Kyle Giese of Mercer Vine represented the buyer.
$27.25 million — Malibu
In a deal between two limited liability companies, a Spanish-style estate on Birdview Avenue sold for $1.745 million less than the asking price of $28.995 million. Two years ago, the house sold for $26.5 million, records show.
The buying LLC’s address of record is the Los Feliz residence of attorney Jonathan Moss and his wife, television and film producer Julia Lebedev. Lebedev, the daughter of Russian oil industrialist and movie financier Leonid Lebedev, produced the 2014 independent film “Dear White People.†A Netflix series based on the movie is currently in development.
Sitting on a bluff of 1.2 acres, the gated Point Dume estate has a refined look, with white gallery walls, wrought-iron details and a mix of marble, stone and wood floors. Grand formal rooms, a wine cellar and a study/office with a fireplace are within more than 9,100 square feet of space. There are six bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms, as well as a guesthouse.
Outdoors, a tennis court sits off the entrance to the home. A swimming pool and spa, a fireplace and large terrace patios fill the grounds.
Chris Cortazzo of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage was the listing agent. Brett Lawyer of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, represented the buyer.
$18 million — Malibu
In the 27000 block of Pacific Coast Highway, an oceanfront home on Escondido Beach sold for $12 million less than what it came to market for in March — $30 million. The property, once owned for decades by television actress Barbara Feldon of “Get Smart†fame, was most recently listed for $21.5 million, records show.
Tax records for the property will be mailed to the offices of filmmaker and speculative developer/designer Scott Gillen. Gillen and developer Barry Shy are both listed as managers of the LLC in the mortgage documents.
The 1.6-acre estate centers on a four-bedroom home built in 1973. Large decks extend from each level of the house and overlook 57 feet of ocean frontage.
Donovan Healey of John Aaroe Group was the listing agent. Sandro Dazzan of Coldwell Banker represented the buyer.
$17.75 million — Malibu
Sole Technology founder and chief Pierre Andre Senizergues, whose streetwear brands include Etnies, éS and Emerica, sold a Spanish-style home in the 28000 block of Cliffside Drive to a blind trust for about $3.25 million less than his most recent asking price — $20 million.
Tucked behind gates on an acre of palm-topped grounds, the bluff-top residence includes a four-bedroom main house and a guesthouse for a total of seven bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms. Unobstructed ocean views extend up and down the coastline.
A swimming pool, a view-deck and a three-car garage also lie within the estate.
Chris Cortazzo of Coldwell Banker represented both sides of the deal.
$12 million — Santa Monica
A limited liability company bought a home on nearly half an acre in the 200 block of Adelaide Drive in a deal completed off-market.
Taxes for the LLC will be mailed to Michael Pellico, according to records obtained by The Times. Pellico is the president of the pharmaceutical company Laclede Inc., a manufacturer of oral, ear and feminine health products.
Built in 1972, the wood-paneled residence has 17 rooms including four bedrooms and five bathrooms, according to property records. In all, there are about 4,900 square feet of living space across two floors.
